Denmark kept trying, the Finland goalie kept saving. Eventually Denmark got a goal, and right at the end of the game we got to see the Denmark goalie, when she made her one save of the night.

In the first half Switzerland dominated, but in the second half Portugal got in the game and it got exciting. I was glad it was a draw.

We went to Brentford to watch Germany and Denmark and it was an amazing atmosphere. We were sitting with a lot of Danish supporters and they chanted and sang the whole way through. A little girl of around 4 or 5 years and her dad was sitting next to us and I thought that she might get bored during the game but she was very enthusiastic and loved cheering all the goals. It’s a shame Denmark didn’t score because they played well and the fans all left smiling. Germany are an incredible team, I fully expect to see them in the final. My only gripe is that there is no programs for Euros22! I was looking forward to buying one to read over the tournament. Why didn’t they make programs???

Spain are one of the favourites to win the tournament but Finland scored a cheeky goal in the first minute and the whole game was very exciting.

Northern Ireland’s first appearance in the Euros and they played well. Norway are a very strong team with lots of tournament experience, so they won the game, but Northern Ireland can be proud that they have scored their first goal in the Euros and hopefully many more will follow.

World Cup 2018 Part 4: Semi Finals

France 1 – 0 Belgium

“was is an own goal?” no, it just touched onto Fellaini’s lovely hair.

England 1 – 2 Coatia

Everyone loves Gareth Southgate and matchday was named ‘Waistcoat Wednesday’ (by no one except the newspapers).

It all started so well! Trippier scored from a free kick in the first 4 minutes! Everyone in the pub sang ‘football’s coming home!’ and spilt beer.

Croatia equalised, and then scored again in extra time and England’s dream of winning the World Cup were dashed.

Of course, everyone in the pub was disappointed, but the DJ put on ‘You Got The Love’ and we all danced and celebrated and cheered the England Team.

It was exciting for the first 4 minutes, when both teams scored, but then it got a bit dull. It went to extra time and then penalties.

Most interesting moment was realising that everyone on the pitch except the goalies are in red/white/black.

Brazil 2 – 0 Mexico

This World Cup has been quite bland for outrageous hair-dos. The Mexican team had fun with a bottle of bleach, strangely on the day that my colleague Adam came in to work with freshly bleached hair. This led to us speculating that he was moonlighting as a Mexican footballer. Sad to see Mexico knocked out.

Belgium 3 – 2 Japan

Chadli scores Belgium’s 3rd goal 20 seconds before the final whistle and saves us all from extra time.

Japan help tidy up the stadium after the game, even though their team is knocked out.

England win the penalties. For. The. First. Time. Ever.

World Cup 2018 Part 1: Group Games

Some of my favourite moments of games I watched.

 

GROUP A

Russia 5 – 0 Saudi

The opening game! Russia score their 5th goal from a free kick in the 92nd minute.

 

Egypt 0 – 1 Uruguay

This was a dull game. The most interesting thing about this game was Rodriguez coming on and noticing that the ‘7’ on his shirt was quite a nice font.

 

Russia 3 – 1 Egypt

Dzyuba scores Russia’s 3rd goal.

 

Uruguay 3 – 0 Russia

36 mins in Russia are two goals down and Igor Smolnikov gets a red card.

GROUP B

Morocco 0 – 1 Iran

No boots, no problem.

Bouhaddouz scores an own goal in 95th minute and Iran wins the game.

 

Portugal 3 – 3 Spain

“Sweet as a nut.” Nacho scores Spain’s 3rd goal.

 

Portugal 1 – 0 Morocco

Ronaldo falls over a lot.

Swiss defenders hold on to Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Shaqiri scores in the 90th minute, strips off in celebration and gets a yellow card.

 

Switzerland 2 – 2 Costa Rica

A penalty in the 94th minute hits the crossbar and then into the Swiss goalie, giving Costa Rica and equalising goal.

Germany 0 – 1 Mexico

The longest 3 minutes ever!

 

South Korea 1 – 2 Mexico

 

Germany 2 – 1 Sweden

The Swedish goal worked so hard, but a last second a snazzy goal from Germany lost them the game.

 

South Korea 2 – 0 Germany 

The last 10 minutes of this game!
“The biggest VAR goal EVER!”

In the last minute Neuer went wandering and left the goal open for South Korea to score again. And shockingly, Germany were out.

GROUP G

England 2 – 1 Tunisia

A pitch full of midges & Harry Kane’s 91st minute winner.

Colombia 1 – 2 Japan

Carlos Sanchez gets the first red card of the tournament within minutes of kick off and Colombia play as 10.

 

Poland 1 – 2 Senegal

Japan 2 – 2 Senegal

Watching with Lorna C. Drinking beers and eating monster munch and skips.

2nd goal.

Senegal had the same points/goals as Japan, but more yellow cards, so they had to go home.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Women’s International Football

Eng 2 – 1 Wales

I was shouting at the telly cos this was so exciting! I was supporting England, but it really looked as though Wales scored, so it could (should?) have been 2-2. The Welsh goalie Laura O’Sullivan absolutely ruled the match. But, England won the game, so they now lead their group. Roll on France 2019!

Faißt looked like a cool superhero, and White played like a superhero.

What a game! I was screaming at the screen (not screaming at the telly – cos the BBC only show women’s football on the ‘red button’, which is less jumpy than Channel 4’s effort for the Euros, and there was commentary too, but it still would be polite if they showed England games on the proper telly, and they showed the other games in the tournament too – I would have loved to have watched all of the games.

It’s all over…

This has been my favourite football tournament ever!

Every match has been great. The Netherlands put on a fantastic tournament, and I feel a bit sad that it’s all over.

What an exciting final!!!! This has to be the most exciting final in the history of football!
The pitch was filled with amazing players, but one of my favourites from the whole fantastic tournament has to be Van De Sanden. What a star!
